Experience: 2-5 years of professional experience in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design for large-scale web applications, with a focus on public-facing portals and citizen service platforms in the government domain.

User-Centered Design Expertise: Skilled in human-centered design (HCD) methodologies for civic technology conducting stakeholder workshops, usability testing, and accessibility reviews to ensure designs meet the needs of diverse user populations, including individuals with limited digital literacy or assistive technology needs.

Accessibility & Compliance: Knowledge of Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA, and U.S. Digital Service accessibility standards, ensuring all design artifacts, interactions, and visual components are fully compliant and inclusive.

Research & Prototyping: Experienced in performing user research, journey mapping, and service design to align modern user interfaces with agency workflows, eligibility processes, and program data integrations.

Technical Skills: Proficient in Figma, Adobe XD, and Miro, with the ability to collaborate closely with developers using Agile and DevSecOps practices. Familiar with front-end implementation considerations (HTML5, CSS, design systems).

Design Systems & Branding: Contributes to the creation or extension of government design systems, ensuring consistent patterns, typography, and color accessibility across agency platforms.

Collaboration & Communication: Works closely with product owners, developers, and policy stakeholders to translate complex eligibility or case management processes into intuitive, accessible user journeys.

Outcomes & Impact: Demonstrated success improving overall usability in government service portals through evidence-based design.

Scope:

Design 20-30 screens for a public facing portal for the NYC Parks Forestry Management System.
