Position: Lead WAN Cisco Network Engineer Location: Remote during contract but must be either local or willing to relocate to either to Des Moines, IA, or Omaha, NE Duration: 6 Month Contract to Hire Responsibilities/Job Duties/Job Description/Qualifications:
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Cisco Network Engineer to take on the role of Lead WAN Engineer in our dynamic and growing organization. As the lead for our client s Wide Area Network (WAN) operations, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing our global network connectivity. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in Cisco technologies, particularly in the realm of WAN architecture and management.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, implementation, and optimization of the organization's global WAN infrastructure to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into efficient and effective WAN solutions.
  • Configure and manage complex routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) to optimize traffic flow across the WAN.
  • Implement and maintain MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) for efficient and secure data transmission.
  • Design and implement QoS policies to prioritize and optimize network traffic, ensuring the best possible user experience for critical applications.
  • Collaborate with the security team to implement and maintain WAN security measures, including VPNs, encryption, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Utilize network monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues, as well as provide regular performance reports to stakeholders.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the WAN infrastructure to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure the organization is leveraging the latest technologies and services for optimal WAN performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the network engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers, facilitating their professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a senior network engineer with a focus on WAN design and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco routing and WAN technologies.
  • Strong understanding of MPLS, QoS, and WAN security principles.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex WAN issues.
