Data Analytics Internship

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Analytics Intern to join our team for the summer 2026 internship program. This internship offers a unique opportunity for Junior or Senior students attending UNC Chapel Hill School of Data Science and Society (SDSS) to gain hands-on experience in the healthcare industry, working with large datasets that include medical claims, pharmacy claims, and membership data. Interns will collaborate closely with actuaries and underwriters, contributing to impactful projects that enhance our analytical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and manipulate large datasets using R, SQL, and Python to derive insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Develop predictive models to forecast trends and outcomes in healthcare data.
  • Create interactive reports and dashboards using Power BI to visualize data findings and communicate results effectively.
  • Stage and prepare data for analytical work, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with team members on various technical tasks and projects, contributing to the overall success of the analytics team.
  • Participate in team meetings and presentations, sharing insights and learning from experienced professionals in the field.

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Science.
  • Interest in health care markets and health economics preferred.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as R, SQL, and Python.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Power BI, is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • A passion for data analysis and a desire to learn about the healthcare industry.
