Job Description:

The Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) Business Intelligence team is seeking a data architect and engineer who will be responsible for supporting the design and structure of our Segment's primary data warehouse. This role will require evaluating two legacy warehouses, supporting the development of the migration plan and data models, and creating ETL packages to move data into a consolidated data warehouse. This individual will identify our internal and external data sources, collaborate with internal teams to determine data storage needs, and use this information to create and maintain data architecture ongoing. This role will also be responsible for data warehouse governance practices, including data management, data quality, data security, and provisioning access.

Essential Functions:

Evaluate current database architecture and determine requirements for the new database
Develop and present database design reports to gain confluence from database admins
Integrate technical functionality, ensuring data accessibility, accuracy, and security
Audit databases regularly to maintain performance and quality
Document data models (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical) to facilitate efficient and effective use of data
Maintain solutions for data modeling and metadata management
Design, build, and manage data pipelines for data structures encompassing data transformation mapping, data flow diagrams, logical and physical data models, and metadata collection
Work with both IT and business in developing, managing, and integrating business intelligence reporting, analytics, and data science output into business processes and workflows
Translate data strategies into data integration frameworks and reporting to enable business analytics
Utilize a standard common business vocabulary, outline high-level integrated designs to meet requirements, and align with enterprise strategy and related business architectures
Lead planning sessions with customers to improve business processes and prioritize investments in data and infrastructure
Proactively analyze existing data structures and reporting to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements
Utilize best practices for naming, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, transforming, moving, storing, and searching all data
Ensure changes to the data environment are compliant with architectural standards
Lead design and data model reviews, providing constructive feedback to Application Developers
Collaborate with IT and other data providers as required to design/develop ETL packages to extract data from a variety of data sources, including databases, Excel files, and SharePoint sites, and troubleshoot and resolve ETL issues
Coordinate cross-functionally with IT and Data Analytics teams to ensure resource optimization, synchronization of initiatives, and to prevent duplication of work across the enterprise
Maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience; Or, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience; Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills:

4+ years of experience developing data solutions for business users, including all aspects of the data lifecycle
4+ years of experience working with relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake) and developing SQL queries on large data sets
3+ years of experience with data extract, transform, and load (ETL & ELT patterns), data storage, data models, etc., using Azure Data Factory, SQL, DAX, and Python
2+ years of experience with Power BI data visualization software
Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy with minimal oversight
Successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
Ability to handle complex problems and take initiative to research issues, engage in self-learning, problem-solve, and implement solutions
Ability to translate data-related requirements into innovative user solutions, drawing on prior education and experience, standard procedures, and basic analysis
Experience completing assignments with minimal supervision and setting objectives to meet the goals of assignments
Ability to establish rapport, communicate effectively, and collaborate with users, data providers, and management at all levels within an organization
Advanced organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to comfortably adjust as priorities change
Able to operate in a fast-paced environment yet remain focused on long-term organizational goals
Excellent communication skills, commitment to quality, customer focus, adaptability, and interpersonal skills

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $93,500-$173,500. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $107,500-$199,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
