About the Role

Do you have amazing XML, data transformation, and digital publishing skills? We re looking for a Junior XSLT Developer who enjoys turning structured XML content into rich, professional HTML and PDF outputs. You ll work with senior developers to customize and enhance DITA-OT (DITA Open Toolkit)-based publishing workflows for global clients in technology, aerospace, and government sectors. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience in XML technologies, DITA architecture, and automated content delivery. Extense is a 100% remote company, all employees work from their primary residence.

What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain XSLT style sheets to transform XML content into HTML, PDF, and other deliverables.

  • Customize and extend the DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) for specific client and project needs.

  • Create and debug XSL-FO templates for professional PDF layouts.

  • Collaborate with senior XML/DITA developers on structured content solutions.

  • Troubleshoot transformation issues and enhance publishing pipelines.

  • Support automation and CI/CD builds for XML-based documentation systems.

What We Are Looking For

  • 0 2 years of hands-on experience with XML and XSLT (relevant academic or project experience welcomed).

  • Solid understanding of XPath and XSL-FO concepts.

  • Familiarity with DITA-OT, DITA maps, and topic-based authoring.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and document styling.

  • Experience with XML editors like Oxygen XML Editor or XMLSpy.

  • Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and eagerness to learn structured content publishing.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience customizing DITA-OT plug-ins or Ant/Gradle build scripts.

  • Familiarity with PDF rendering tools (Antenna House, RenderX, or Apache FOP).

  • Knowledge of version control (Git/SVN).
