Summary: The Traffic Management Operator is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow by monitoring roadways, detecting and responding to traffic incidents, and managing congestion. This advanced-level role requires the operator to work with minimal supervision and utilize a variety of computer-based traffic management systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced-level traffic management functions with minimal supervision.
  • Operate traffic management systems to manage roadways and improve traffic conditions.
  • Monitor roadways using surveillance cameras and detection systems.
  • Oversee all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the traffic system.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of traffic equipment, computers, and software.
  • Utilize traffic equipment to manage incidents and improve travel time and safety.
  • Ensure accuracy of messages displayed on DMS and 511 systems.
  • Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
  • Familiarize with roadways and understand the purpose and location of traffic devices.
  • Alert operator staff to new and existing memos.
  • Use SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
  • Coordinate with highway patrol, law enforcement, and other traffic management centers for incident management.
  • Dispatch and assist Service Patrols as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in dispatch or call center environments is a plus.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and follow established procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with various agencies and teams.
  • Proficiency in using computer-based traffic management software.
  • Willingness to work evening shifts as specified.

    -Wednesday at 4:30 P.M. until Midnight

    -Thursday evening at 2:00 P.M. until Midnight

    -Friday evening at 2:00 P.M until Midnight

    -Saturday evening 2:00 P.M. until Midnight
