Overview
Our client, a fast-growing 3PL logistics company based in Houston, is building out a modern data platform to support analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making across the business. This role sits within a newly formed Data Products / Data Services team and will play a key role in designing and delivering high-quality, query-ready data used by BI, analytics, and external integrations.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a Data Engineer who enjoys working close to the business, partnering with BI teams, and helping shape data foundations in a growing organization.
Position Summary
The Data Engineer will serve as the bridge between raw source data and downstream BI and analytics use cases. This role focuses on transforming, modeling, and delivering clean, reliable data products using modern data tooling and cloud-native technologies. The ideal candidate brings a mix of strong SQL skills, data modeling experience, and software engineering fundamentals, along with a collaborative mindset and comfort working in an evolving team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze raw source data and design, build, and maintain DBT models to produce structured, analytics-ready data products
- Partner closely with BI Engineers to understand reporting and analytics requirements and translate them into scalable data models
- Perform data transformation, validation, and enrichment to support reporting, dashboards, and downstream integrations
- Enable data delivery into streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka) to support near real-time use cases
- Ensure data is delivered in a queryable, high-quality format for BI tools such as Power BI
- Develop and support integrations with third-party systems and vendors
- Document data pipelines, transformation logic, models, and operational processes
- Leverage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to deploy and manage data infrastructure
- Own data delivery through successful loading into data warehouses such as Snowflake and Materialize
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong SQL expertise for data transformation, modeling, and analysis
- Experience with Python or a similar programming language
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and hands-on experience with platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or Materialize
- Experience working with streaming technologies such as Kafka or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with DBT or similar transformation frameworks
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred)
- Ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation
