Position Title: Middleware Administrator
Location: Eagan, MN | San Mateo, CA | Raleigh, NC
Clearance Requirements: Public Trust (or ability to obtain)
Position Status: Contract
Pay Rate: $30/hr on W2


Position Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Middleware Administrator to support a large, enterprise-scale, multi-datacenter environment. This role focuses on Middle Tier administration with additional responsibilities across Unix/Linux and Windows server environments. The ideal candidate thrives in complex technical ecosystems, excels in troubleshooting, and plays a leading role in incident response, performance tuning, and infrastructure optimization.

You will work with modern technologies such as Apache Tomcat, WildFly, Oracle Fusion Middleware, WebSphere, Kubernetes, Docker, IBM MQ, Kafka, RedHat OpenShift, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, Ansible, AppDynamics, Splunk, and more. This position requires the ability to work independently, mentor other administrators, manage deployments, and ensure system reliability across mission-critical platforms.


Required Skills/Education

Core Technical Requirements

Candidates must be proficient in at least two of the following three skill areas:

1. Middle Tier Administration (Primary Focus Area)

Hands-on experience supporting enterprise middleware environments including:

  • Web and application servers: Apache Tomcat, WildFly, Oracle Fusion Middleware (OFM), IBM WebSphere, Apache HTTP

  • Containerization: Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift

  • Messaging technologies: IBM MQ, Kafka, Zookeeper

  • Cloud platforms: Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), Microsoft Azure

  • Automation & scripting: Ansible, Linux shell scripting, PowerShell, Jython

  • Monitoring tools: AppDynamics, Zabbix, SolarWinds, Neustar, Splunk

2. Unix/Linux Server Administration

  • Administration in large, distributed, multi-datacenter environments

  • Experience with performance monitoring, capacity planning, and Virtual ESX environments

  • Ability to lead root-cause analysis and mentor Linux administrators

  • Strong troubleshooting across hardware, OS, and application layers

3. Windows Server Administration

  • Administration of Windows server environments in enterprise infrastructure

  • Independent troubleshooting, ESX virtualization, performance tuning

  • Mentoring junior Windows administrators and guiding issue resolution


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support for Unix, Linux, Windows, and middle tier applications including deployments, performance tuning, patching, and configuration.

  • Manage incident response using ServiceNow and adhere to strict Change Management SLAs.

  • Lead technical efforts during major incidents, outages, and root-cause investigations.

  • Support complex distributed environments across server, middleware, and database layers.

  • Develop and implement disaster recovery, proactive monitoring, and capacity planning strategies.

  • Create project plans, maintain documentation, track milestones, and report updates to leadership.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and vendors to support deployments and upgrades.

  • Assist development teams with testing, software implementations, and environment validation.

  • Manage inventory, update configuration documentation, and support systems lifecycle management.

  • Utilize enterprise tools for monitoring, systems management, security, and automation.

  • Provide training, knowledge sharing, and leadership to technical staff.

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, communication, and customer service.
