Job Title: Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer
Location: Remote (Texas)
Duration: 11 months with the possibility of extension

Position Overview

This role involves highly advanced systems administration in support of mainframe applications and infrastructure. The Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer will coordinate day-to-day administration, including configuration, break/fix support, user account creation, security administration, performance monitoring, and system maintenance.

The position also requires collaboration with other IT teams (Network Administration, Customer Support, Application Development & Support) to ensure seamless day-to-day mainframe operations. Experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration for Change Data Capture using IMS and VSAM is a plus.

The candidate will support both legacy systems and modernization efforts for the Mainframe Transformation Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for z/OS operating systems and components, providing technical support for releases, upgrades, and changes.

  • Provide end-user support for Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products such as BlueZone.

  • Administer and support SCLM.

  • Contribute to hardware capacity planning.

  • Provide administration and support for CICS and IMS .

  • Diagnose platform and software issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Analyze performance issues and contribute to capacity planning and system-wide performance tuning.

  • Provide input on system parameters and library management.

  • Act as a technical consultant to other IT teams.

  • Lead or participate in internal projects impacting the z/OS platform.

  • Support integration testing of new products with existing applications and user procedures.

  • Maintain and support Mainframe Production Control, including job scheduler management.

Candidate Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience with z/OS Systems Programming.

  • At least 5 years of experience with JES2, z/OS Unix System Services (OMVS), and Storage Management Subsystem (SMS).

  • At least 3 years of experience with Top Secret Security (TSS).

  • At least 3 years of experience with performance monitoring, including analysis of performance issues.

  • At least 2 years of experience with REXX scripting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration.

  • Working knowledge of:

    • z/OS Operation and Networking (VTAM, TCP/IP).

    • z/OS job scheduling and management software (JOBTRAC).

    • Terminal emulator software (BlueZone).

    • VTAM session manager software (VTAM/SWITCH).

  • Familiarity with:

    • SMP/E, RMF, SMF, WLM, JCL, GRS.

    • VSAM, TSO.

  • Experience with TLS configuration, including certificates, SSL, RSA keys, SFTP, and FTPS.

  • Experience with SCLM (or similar configuration management tools) for configuration and administration.

  • Experience with CPM for JOBTRAC.
