Job Title: SAP S/4HANA Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC) Architect Lead
Location: Remote (EST)
Duration: 12+ Months
Important:
Hands-on experience with ETO/MTO production processes within custom cabinetry, furniture, millwork, or similar configurable manufacturing industries.
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC) Architect Lead with deep functional and technical expertise in engineer-to-order (ETO) and make-to-order (MTO) manufacturing processes, specifically tailored for the custom cabinetry and furniture industry.
This role is responsible for leading the architecture, design, and implementation of robust AVC models that support highly customizable product configurations across our enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Implementation:
Design and implement product configurators to support seamless, scalable, and user-friendly configuration workflows for custom cabinets and furniture lines.
Develop and migrate product models by translating existing Variant Configuration (VC) data structures to AVC, including characteristics, classes, and dependencies.
Define configuration profiles and scenarios, ensuring flexible yet controlled configuration behavior aligned with sales and engineering strategies.
Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) and routing structures reflective of configurable product options.
Set up and maintain master data to ensure accuracy and consistency across variant characteristics and material records.
Utilize the SAP Activate methodology to structure the AVC implementation lifecycle, from exploration to realization and deployment.
Configuration & Management:
Manage configurable materials, including the conversion and optimization of existing legacy materials into AVC-compatible formats.
Define and manage characteristics, ensuring proper value ranges and class assignments to support complex rule structures.
Create and manage dependencies and constraints, governing permissible combinations, exclusions, and calculations within the product configurator.
Manage engineering and product change requests (ECOs, MCOs), including deviations and stop-ship scenarios, ensuring impact is controlled within the variant models.
Support & Expertise:
Provide expert-level support on AVC functionality across business and technical teams, serving as the subject matter expert.
Collaborate with business stakeholders and client teams to gather requirements, validate configurations, and deliver tailored AVC solutions.
Offer technical support and troubleshooting, identifying root causes of configuration issues and driving timely resolutions.
Stay current with SAP AVC advancements, regularly evaluating new features, performance improvements, and integration opportunities.
Skills & Qualifications:
Deep understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture and core modules, particularly around VC/AVC, SD, PP, MM, and integration points.
Proven expertise in Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC), including AVC dependency modeling, characteristic mapping, and configuration logic.
Strong foundational knowledge of classic Variant Configuration (LO-VC) and its migration to AVC.
Hands-on experience with ETO/MTO production processes within custom cabinetry, furniture, millwork, or similar configurable manufacturing industries.
Familiarity with CAD/PLM/CNC integration, shop floor execution, and downstream process automation.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams, collaborate across Engineering, Sales, Operations, and IT, and influence decisions across business and technical stakeholders.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to articulate complex configuration logic in simple, business-oriented language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SAP Fiori AVC modeling tools, SAP CPQ integration, and visualization tools for 3D configuration.
Exposure to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) for enhancing configurator UX or extending functionality.
Prior experience with data migration, governance frameworks, and performance optimization for large-scale AVC models.
Knowledge of industry-specific configuration elements: materials/finishes, product dimensions, accessories, and client-driven customization logic.
