Kafka Infrastructure Engineer / Administrator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Kafka Infrastructure Engineer/Administrator to join our infrastructure team. This role will focus on supporting and maintaining Confluent Kafka platforms in a large-scale, production environment. You will be responsible for L3 production support, infrastructure engineering, automation, onboarding users to Kafka, and ensuring high availability and performance of Kafka systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and manage Confluent Kafka platform components (Kafka brokers, Zookeeper, Connect, Schema Registry, etc.)
• Provide L3 production support for Kafka clusters in multi-region environments.
• Perform installation, upgrades, configuration, tuning, and maintenance of Kafka infrastructure.
• Automate operational tasks using Shell and/or Python scripting.
• Collaborate with application teams to onboard and support Kafka consumers/producers.
• Monitor system performance using tools like Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, JMX.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Kafka-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
• Utilize ticketing systems such as JIRA and ServiceNow for incident and change management.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise standards and implement security best practices.
• Support middleware integrations and data flow migration to Kafka-based architectures.
• Document infrastructure, processes, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in Kafka administration and support in a production environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and Confluent Kafka.
• Deep understanding of Kafka architecture, cluster setup, scaling, and performance tuning.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, JMX).
• Proficient in Shell scripting and/or Python for automation.
• Familiarity with middleware technologies and Kafka integrations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
• Experience using ticketing systems such as JIRA, ServiceNow.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
