Take2 is seeking a Senior Dedicated Field Engineer. This is a fully remote role.
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Dedicated Field Engineer (DFE) to provide expert-level technical support and strategic guidance for Canonical s Ubuntu operating system, with a primary focus on its use as a hypervisor platform. The Senior DFE will partner with enterprise clients to architect, deploy, and optimize Canonical Ubuntu-based virtualization environments, leveraging Ubuntu s robust capabilities as a hypervisor. This role demands deep expertise in Ubuntu, a passion for Canonical s open-source ecosystem, and the ability to deliver tailored solutions that maximize client success.
Key Responsibilities
- Canonical Ubuntu Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on Canonical Ubuntu, providing advanced support for Ubuntu Server as a hypervisor, including KVM, QEMU, libvirt, and related Canonical tools.
- Deployment & Optimization: Lead the design, deployment, and fine-tuning of Canonical Ubuntu hypervisor environments, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability for client workloads.
- Client Partnership: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, deeply understanding their virtualization needs and aligning solutions with Canonical Ubuntu s capabilities, including Ubuntu Advantage support services.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in Ubuntu-based hypervisor deployments, leveraging Canonical s documentation, tools, and community resources to ensure swift resolution.
- Security & Compliance: Implement Canonical Ubuntu s security features (e.g., AppArmor, security patches via Ubuntu Advantage) to maintain secure, compliant virtualization environments.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate Canonical Ubuntu hypervisor tasks, such as virtual machine provisioning, snapshot management, and system monitoring.
- Training & Knowledge Sharing: Create detailed documentation, including Canonical Ubuntu-specific deployment guides, and deliver training to clients and internal teams on Ubuntu hypervisor best practices.
- Collaboration with Canonical: Work closely with Canonical s engineering and support teams to escalate critical issues, provide feedback on Ubuntu s virtualization features, and stay aligned with Canonical s roadmap.
- On-Site & Remote Support: Provide both on-site and remote support for Canonical Ubuntu environments, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime for mission-critical systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on Canonical Ubuntu releases, Canonical s virtualization innovations (e.g., LXD, MAAS), and industry trends to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- 5+ years in technical support, systems engineering, or field engineering roles, with a focus on Linux environments.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Canonical Ubuntu as a hypervisor, including expertise in KVM, QEMU, libvirt, and Canonical s virtualization tools.
- Proven success in deploying and supporting enterprise-grade Canonical Ubuntu virtualization solutions.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge of Canonical Ubuntu Server, including package management (APT), systemd, networking, and Canonical s virtualization stack.
- Proficiency in Canonical Ubuntu s virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, libvirt) and tools like virt-manager, MAAS, and LXD.
- Experience supporting Canonical s Coriolis migration tool for seamless migration of virtual machines to and from Ubuntu-based hypervisor environments.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar to automate Canonical Ubuntu hypervisor workflows.
- Familiarity with Canonical s enterprise offerings, such as Ubuntu Advantage, Landscape, and Juju, for managing Ubuntu-based environments.
- Knowledge of networking (e.g., Ubuntu s netplan), storage (e.g., Ceph, LVM), and integration with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) using Ubuntu.
- Expertise in Canonical Ubuntu s security features, including SELinux, AppArmor, and timely application of Ubuntu security updates.
- Soft Skills:
- Outstanding communication and client-facing skills to represent Canonical Ubuntu s capabilities effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving Ubuntu-specific challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
- Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Canonical Ubuntu certifications (e.g., Ubuntu Certified Professional) or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel for on-site client support to deploy or troubleshoot Canonical Ubuntu environments.
- Availability for on-call rotations to support critical Canonical Ubuntu hypervisor incidents.
