Senior Structure & Payload Design Engineer

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Senior Structures and Payload Design Engineers (Level 4) to join our Payload organization based in Everett or Renton, WA.

As a Senior Payload Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the passenger experience and supporting our airline customers' missions through the design and integration of airplane interiors, cargo compartments, and associated systems. You will manage the installation, integration, and certification of passenger seat programs, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and Boeing standards. This dynamic position requires extensive collaboration with various teams, including Customer Engineering, Supplier Management, and regulatory bodies like the FAA. A strong engineering foundation is essential for reviewing technical data, understanding certification requirements, and preparing engineering releases. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism in high-pressure environments and possess the flexibility to engage with global airline customers and suppliers, including potential travel requirements.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Works under minimal direction.

Work Authorization:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options (Everett or Renton, WA).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace engineering, design criteria and engineering release processes.
  • Experience working within a cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace engineering.
  • Engineering support and project leadership within a production system.
  • Direct experience working with/for aerospace suppliers or airlines.
  • Validating/demonstrating compliance to regulatory requirements.
  • Working with regulators.
  • Design for manufacturing experience.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent.
