Role: AS400 Developer
Location: Issaquah, WA
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced AS400 (iSeries) Developer to lead the design, development, and support of enterprise retail and supply chain applications. This role requires strong technical expertise in RPGLE, DB2/400, and iSeries architecture, along with the ability to collaborate across teams and drive engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and maintenance of iSeries (AS/400) code supporting retail applications.
Drive architectural design discussions and promote engineering best practices for scalable, high-quality solutions.
Develop efficient, fault-tolerant, and high-performance software solutions.
Participate in defining, documenting, and enforcing departmental standards and best practices.
Mentor junior engineers and conduct peer code reviews.
Identify codebase deficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance quality and maintainability.
Collaborate with Systems Architects, Systems Analysts, Product Owners, QA, and business stakeholders throughout the full SDLC.
Analyze, design, and develop solutions for enterprise retail and supply chain systems.
Create functional and technical specifications following standard processes and procedures.
Perform unit testing and coordinate development and QA activities.
Participate in effort estimation, deployment planning, and release management.
Ensure timely delivery of application solutions and related artifacts.
Provide 2nd-level production support, resolve incidents, and create knowledge base articles for 1st-level support.
Support off-hours work, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as required.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance at the assigned work location.
Continuously enhance technical skills, business knowledge, and understanding of organizational policies.
Required Experience & Skills
5+ years of functional and technical design experience.
7+ years of programming experience with RPGLE, SQL, and CL on iSeries (AS/400).
Hands-on experience with DB2/400, Turnover, and X-Analysis.
Proven experience designing and maintaining large-scale, real-time business applications.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
Strong documentation skills for solution and functional design artifacts.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple work requests efficiently.
Preferred / Recommended Qualifications
Familiarity with SAP Master Data and MDG application integration.
Experience with integration tools such as IBM WebSphere Broker and IBM ACS.
Good understanding of Agile development methodologies.
Knowledge of API development, with a focus on security and performance.
Proficiency in Google Workspace tools (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail).
Internal candidates should have at least one year of tenure on their current team.
