PLEASE NOTE: This is a 6 month renewable contract and needs to meet Client full-time conversion policies. Those dependent on a work permit sponsor now or anytime in the future (ie H1B, OPT, CPT, etc) do not meet Client requirements for this opening.

This is a remote work position however, the selected candidate should be available to travel locally throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island

The Hartford currently has an in-house remote work opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney, Tort to handle cases within Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise.
  • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
  • Promptly and efficiently handle the disposition of assigned cases.
  • Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at hearings and alternative dispute resolutions

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling general liability and/or auto cases
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Massachusetts and Rhode Island
  • Additional licensure to practice law in New Hampshire a plus
  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
