Workday HCM Payroll Consultant
Location: San Leandro, CA (Hybrid Onsite presence required as needed)
Duration: 3 Months Contract (with potential for extension)
Hours: 20 40 hours/week, depending on project needs
Project Overview:
- The client is implementing Workday HCM and Payroll as part of a broader ERP modernization initiative.
- We are seeking a highly skilled Workday consultant with expertise in HCM business processes and U.S. Payroll configuration, ideally with public sector experience, to assist during the end-to-end and parallel testing phases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Client staff in executing end-to-end test scenarios across HCM and Payroll, as provided by the Workday implementer.
- Assist with parallel payroll testing, validating results by comparing Workday outputs with the Client's current semi-monthly payroll system.
- Provide guidance and best practices to support the Clients transition from semi-monthly to bi-weekly payroll.
- Leverage strong configuration expertise to troubleshoot and refine HCM and Payroll setup in collaboration with internal teams.
- Assist in creating or updating test documentation, job aids, training materials, and knowledge transfer content.
- Collaborate with the Clients Change Management Lead and project team to support adoption and readiness.
- (Preferred) Provide input on integration points with external systems, including CalPERS, benefit providers, and other third-party systems relevant to California municipalities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM and U.S. Payroll, with specific experience in parallel testing and payroll frequency transitions.
- Strong understanding of public sector HR/payroll requirements; California government experience highly preferred.
- Experience with Workday testing cycles, including E2E, parallel, and UAT.
- Hands-on configuration skills across core HCM, compensation, time tracking, and payroll modules.
- Familiarity with CalPERS reporting and benefits integration is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Must be able to work onsite as needed.
