About the Role
We're seeking a senior-level Optical Transport Engineer to lead the design and evolution of a national ISP's next-generation optical backbone. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role-ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of architecture, deployment, and mentorship.
You'll own the design of complex DWDM/ROADM/OTN systems, guide field teams, and collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure scalable, high-performance transport infrastructure.

About the Role
We're seeking a senior-level Optical Transport Engineer to lead the design and evolution of a national ISP's next-generation optical backbone. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role-ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of architecture, deployment, and mentorship.
You'll own the design of complex DWDM/ROADM/OTN systems, guide field teams, and collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure scalable, high-performance transport infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the design of optical transport systems using Nokia 1830 PSS and Ciena 6500 platforms.
- Define and document network design standards, optical budgets, and performance benchmarks.
- Provide technical leadership to field engineers and junior transport staff during deployments and escalations.
- Oversee fiber validation, OSNR analysis, and dispersion management across long-haul and metro networks.
- Collaborate with planning, operations, and vendor teams to drive network upgrades and expansions.
- Evaluate and implement automation and monitoring tools to improve deployment efficiency and network visibility.
What You Bring
- 7+ years in optical transport engineering, with a focus on design leadership and multi-vendor environments.
- Deep expertise in DWDM, ROADM, OTN, and Layer 1-2 transport protocols.
- Proven experience with Nokia 1830 and Ciena 6500 systems.
- Strong understanding of fiber optics, link budgets, remote testing tools (OTDR, OSA), and network performance metrics.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills-able to mentor, influence, and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Bonus: Certifications (Nokia ONC, Ciena Certified, FOA CFOT), scripting/automation (Python, Ansible), or experience in headend/CO environments.
