This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum

The Role

Virtual Propulsion Engineering at General Motors is looking for driven individuals to become Computer Aided Engineers (CAE) and lead the future of virtual engineering. As a company we are focused on using virtual tools as the primary driver to enable speed and built in quality. We are looking for our candidates to lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, decision making, and project management throughout the vehicle development process. In addition, to provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative team focused on developing density function theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) models to characterize battery cell component properties and their impact on battery cell performance. The developed Models are used to guide battery cell design and battery cell manufacturing processes through performance optimization and the design of process equipment or optimization of their operation

What You'll Do

  • Development of new and innovative Molecular Dynamics simulations related to battery cell performance and manufacturing
  • Collaboratively work in small teams focused on the development of complex molecular dynamics simulations
  • Application of developed and developing capabilities to directly impact design, manufacturing process, and for the elimination of hardware testing
  • Provide component-level and/or system-level design recommendations to Process and Design Responsible Engineers based on interpretation of analysis results
  • Participate in process/product design and development teams and present analysis results to engineering peers and management
  • Provide technical insight for problem resolution by leveraging analysis results
  • Benchmarking and evaluation of new procedures, technology, or software tools
  • Contribute to the development of automation tools using Python, Java, or equivalent

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of electrochemical modeling processes and Molecular Dynamics
  • 5+ years of experience with Molecular Dynamics Simulations
  • Industry experience using MD simulation results to solve industry problems within automotive, aerospace or related field

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • Advanced degree (MS or greater) in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
