Job Description

McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking an Engineering Technician IV who will support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. NUWC is the United States Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, initiative, and resourcefulness and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment. This technician will be required to support onsite electrical/electronic tasks conducted at NUWCDIVNPT's Launcher Facilities by performing the following tasks:

    \n
  • Performing simple wiring, soldering, and electrical connections in accordance with technical documentation (drawings, schematics, wiring tables, parts lists, etc.).
  • \n
  • Fabricating prototype cables and electrical assemblies.
  • \n
  • Assembling, installing, and/or replacing electronic components or hardware.
  • \n
  • Performing testing and troubleshooting of electrical and electromechanical components and systems using applicable technical documentation.
  • \n
  • Installing, configuring, and operating instrumentation, signal conditioning amplifiers and filters, data acquisition hardware, and associated cabling.
  • \n
  • Performing user calibration of test instrumentation, including but not limited to pressure transducers, accelerometers, and hydrophones.
  • \n
  • Operating data acquisition (DAQ) equipment and software to facilitate the collection and display of test data.
  • \n
  • Taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.

  • 3-5 years of experience fabricating and testing prototype cables and electrical control/monitoring assemblies in accordance with engineering drawing packages
  • \n
  • Soldering experience in a professional environment
  • \n

Preferred Job Qualifications
    \n
  • IPC soldering certifications
  • \n
  • Associate's Degree related to electronics or equivalent work experience
  • \n
