Job Title: Mechanical Methods and Validation Engineer
Type: Contract
Compensation: $84 - $90 hourly
Contractor Work Model: hybrid (local to Bellevue, WA), or fully remote
System One is seeking to contract with a senior or principal level engineer for a hybrid (local to Bellevue, WA), or fully remote role to support development and validation of mechanical analysis methods. The position is broad in scope and may include supporting mechanical validation test design and conducting pretest predictions, benchmarking analysis methods against test data, overseeing validations tests, conducting analysis to support reactor core design, and supporting methods development and uncertainty quantification. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in engineering analysis principles, finite element methods, mechanical testing, model validation, and test instrumentation. Familiarity with Python and object-oriented programming will be highly advantageous.

Tasks
- Work with testing and methods teams to support design of tests for validating mechanical analysis methods
- Develop pretest predictions, benchmark test data, and oversee validation tests to determine acceptability of test data in real time
- Document validation benchmarks in reports to support methods validation
- Support methods development work with uncertainty quantification
- Perform mechanical analysis to support design of reactor core system and components
- Contribute to software quality assurance of in-house and commercially developed software
Key Qualifications and Skills
- B.S. or Masters in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years professional mechanical analysis experience using hand calculations and finite element methods
- Extensive experience with mechanical testing for validating analysis methods, including experience with test instrumentation
- Prior nuclear industry experience preferred
- Strong coding skills using Python preferred
- Abaqus experience preferred
- Strong communication skills desired
- The service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
- Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
