Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to Sr. Director PG (PowerGen) Central Support, the Boiler Technologies Principle provides strategic and technical leadership, oversight and management for CPS Energy's boiler and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) technologies. Assists executive leaders, plant teams and central support teams in overseeing and ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of boiler and HRSG systems. Works closely with other boiler and HRSG experts in industry to bring best practices into CPS Energy's operations and maintenance strategies.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Day-to-day strategic & technical oversight of CPS Energy's boiler & HRSG technologies.

Development of strategies to sustain & improve boiler & HRSG performance & reliability.

Analyzes & evaluates operations, maintenance & performance levels in plant environments. Recommends Boiler/HRSG conversions, upgrades, modifications and/or new products as appropriate to achieve operational performance.

Prepares project estimates & develops & submits accurate budgets.

Develops equipment specifications, contractual agreements and performs project management activities such as outage planning and execution.

Assists with inspections of all assigned equipment during outages or overhauls to evaluate overall condition and document remaining life assessment.

Continuously monitors technical bulletins and similar published materials applicable to the responsible assets.

Generates work notifications and preventative maintenance plans in the computerized maintenance management system in support of unit reliability.

Engages in key strategic business planning activities to ensure strategies & metric targets associated with financial, operational, & safety performance are aligned.

Maintains current, readily available records on all boiler & parts; tracks the repair & status of each part; assists in tracking parts delivery for outages & ensures proper pricing & delivery.

Directs department activities to support maintenance in troubleshooting the causes of repetitive failures & unusual events.

Leads and supports cause analyses to identify and correct/mitigate repetitive failures. Indirectly supervise operations & maintenance team that oversees projects & manages performance activities.

Develops training related to boilers & HRSG's that is used to develop operations & maintenance teams.

Oversees tests that analyze design, feasibility, operation, equipment condition & performance of the facility.

Confers with Engineers, Plant Personnel and Management to develop mitigation plans, design modifications, operational changes and changes in maintenance practices and/or new system implementation to prevent repetitive failures and/or improve boiler & HRSG performance.

Provides leadership and support for Power Generation improvement programs and initiatives.

Perform other assigned duties as required to support CPS Energy objectives.

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Experience maintaining and/or operating power plants.

Management and Executive or Technical leadership experience.

Valid Texas Driver's License with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPS policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire a valid Texas Driver's License. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, and presentations.

Ability to use the plant historian and other operating/monitoring/control systems.

Proactive, collaborative leadership style with ability to identify risks and problem solve solutions.

Ability to achieve operational and maintenance objectives by developing strategic plans and reviews; prepares and completes action plans; resolves problems; completes audits; identifies trends; and implements change.

Ability to reconcile ambiguous situations and drive initiatives to successful conclusion.

Experienced workforce leader skilled in teambuilding and performance management. Demonstrated experience successfully overseeing power plant operations, maintenance or overhaul.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage multiple concurrent activities in a highly dynamic environment that requires continuous reprioritization as determined by operational and maintenance situations as they arise.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.

Ability to read, understand and use drawings, specifications and regulatory statutes and references.

Familiar with electrical, mechanical, controls, instrumentation, and civil components and equipment including but not limited to: high pressure steam boilers & HRSG's.

Expert understanding of plant operations, maintenance, and safety.

Minimum Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering OR related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with boilers & HRSG's.

Preferred Qualifications

PE registration / State of Texas

Power plant or similar experience

Specific experience operating and/or maintaining Alstom, Vogt-NEM boilers & HRSG's.
