Job Details

Director of Audio Visual

Manages and guides the strategic direction and operational planning of audio-visual (AV) technology across building projects, meetings, and significant events within the organization. Supervises the Meetings/AV department, including personnel and financial resources. Takes charge of planning and implementing technical support for various gatherings, concerts, and prominent events. Produces comprehensive activity and progress reports. Ensures alignment of long-term goals with short-term tasks and establishes streamlined processes to ensure the smooth functioning of a moderately complex operation. Acts as a technical advisor for institutional communication initiatives.

The candidate will need to come on site 5 days a week their D.C. office.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Supervises all audio-visual (AV) operations, encompassing the technology in meeting rooms, videoconferencing, and webcasts, ensuring adherence to established operational protocols. Develops and implements internal departmental standards and procedures.
  • Oversees the organization, coordination, scheduling, and prioritization of room bookings, event setups, and daily tasks to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of work.
  • Manages and oversees employees engaged in AV technology across the organization, including determining staffing levels.
  • Ensures timely and effective provision of AV support and services. Provides leadership, mentorship, and training to enhance current job performance and facilitate staff development for future roles.
  • Promotes teamwork and fosters a collaborative work environment. Consistently interprets and applies organizational policies. Initiates personnel actions, including performance evaluations, compensation reviews, and disciplinary measures.
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates work logs to ensure accurate and timely documentation of activities, analyzing trends in AV issues, and preparing briefings. Delegates tasks for problem resolution and repair based on reports and statistical summaries of activities.
  • Establishes, documents, and upholds AV and Meetings policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates and reports on the lifespan, repair, and replacement needs of technology across all buildings.
  • Collaborates with other Academies Facilities AV staff to provide recommendations and support for AV technology.
  • Advises programs on equipment upgrades and ensures compliance with AV industry standards.
  • Consults with various departments and stakeholders to address and resolve issues, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
  • Participates in budget planning for AV and technology requirements, overseeing the bid and selection process, placing orders, and managing transactions.
  • Coordinates vendor and contractor relations and oversees contracted labor. Provides technical guidance to visiting technicians and the Press during high-profile events.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Eight years of related professional experience, three of which were in a supervisory capacity. Preferred experience in:
  • Audio DSP (BiAMP)
  • Video (Extron & Crestron)
  • Managing Live Events
  • Project Management with Audio Visual (AV) Systems
  • Management, Operation, Maintenance of AV Systems in Multiuse Facilities
