Job Details

Senior Firewall Network Engineer
Direct Hire Location: Hybrid Initial onboarding and training onsite (~3 months), then hybrid/remote options available.
On-Call Schedule: Once every 12 weeks
Local Candidates Preferred

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of networking experience.
  • Cisco certifications or other relevant networking certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with networking systems, protocols, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience in enterprise switched and routed environments.
  • Strong knowledge of network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • 6+ years of experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (healthcare industry experience preferred).
  • PCNSE certification preferred.
  • Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent knowledge required.
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong ability to record and interpret TCP/IP packet captures.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications.
  • Proficiency in automation languages (Python, Java, Perl, etc.) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and oversee firewall policies based on Information Security Team input.
  • Act as a liaison between Information Security and Networking teams for seamless collaboration.
  • Work with project managers and system owners to define firewall requirements and document system communication flows.
  • Advise on B2B VPN requirements and document configurations.
  • Maintain up-to-date system communication design documents for all firewall-traversing systems.
  • Assist teams with troubleshooting by analyzing firewall logs and TCP/IP packet captures.
  • Ensure firewall appliances remain updated with the latest OS versions, security patches, and licenses.
  • Stay informed about emerging firewall technologies, evaluate new features, and provide recommendations.
  • Perform firewall hardware maintenance, including break/fix replacements and upgrades.
  • Monitor Service Desk tickets and manage firewall-related issues.
  • Participate in the Technical Review Board and Change Advisory Board for system change management.
  • Maintain clear communication across IT teams for effective decision-making.
  • Research firewall network products, services, and standards to support procurement and development.
