Job Description
You don't see it, but it's there. Our employees work on the world's most advanced electronics - from saving emissions in the City of Lights to powering the Mars Rover to protecting the F35 fighter jet. At Electronic Systems, you'll be among the brightest minds, working on the aerospace and defense industry's most difficult problems. Drawing strength from our differences, we're innovating for the future. And you can, too. Our flexible work environment provides you a chance to change the world without giving up your personal life. We put our customers first - exemplified by our missions: "We Protect Those Who Protect Us " and "We Innovate For Those Who Move The WorldTM." Sound like a team you want to be a part of? Come build your career with BAE Systems.

In Controls & Avionics Solutions, you will have the opportunity to help define and develop the next generation of avionics - whether it is fly-by-wire flight controls, full authority digital engine controls, or power management.

We are seeking a Senior Product Test Engineer to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment at the Fort Wayne Indiana facility. This role will support the aftermarket team in their testing and troubleshooting efforts, with an emphasis on complex power supply subassemblies. Requiring close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, this role will also develop solutions to reduce customer turn-around time and minimize rework/repair defects. Finally, this role requires a well-rounded electronics background, with hands on experience testing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical products/test equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot failed power supplies off aircraft engine control units.
  • Interface with Labview and HT_Basic to run module-level tests on circuit card subassemblies.
  • Interpret module-level fail data to perform root cause analysis on failure mode (both internal and external to the board).
  • Analyze complex analog circuitry for a high level and low-level understanding of power supply operation.
  • Troubleshoot failed hardware down to a component level.
  • Generate detailed rework/repair instructions.
  • Document workflow and findings reports for data tracking purposes.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct technical interviews and support recruiting efforts for future PE/PTE candidates.
  • Drive continuous improvements and safety initiatives.
  • Lead Kaizen events such as Six Sigma Green Belt Projects, 5S/7S, and Gemba Walks.
  • Embrace and implement Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Train junior engineers on high and low level circuit operation.
  • Create new tools and procedures to aid in reducing various forms of waste.
  • Collaborate frequently with multidisciplinary individuals and teams representing other departments, and/or outside organizations.
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in designing, testing, or troubleshooting electronic assemblies (or equivalent experience).
  • Familiar with the operation of test equipment such as multimeters, LCR meters, oscilloscopes, benchtop power supplies, function generators, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, CAD drawings, function block diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Exhibits strong problem solving skills to develop solutions to complex problems, leaning on established precedents and policies.
  • Strong understanding and application of technical principles and industry practices relating to various Switch Mode Power Supply topologies using single phase, 3 phase, and DC supplies. These include, but are not limited to Push-Pull, Shunt, Flyback, Buck and Boost convertors.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, analog signal processing, active/passive filters, and closed loop systems.
  • General understanding of digital electronic systems.
Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires ship or Permanent Resident status.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • IPC J-STD certified.
  • Experience with circuit simulation.
  • Experience working with Class 3 products and Power Supplies.
