Description: Senior Structural Engineer - Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering

Location: Houston, TX or New Orleans, LA (Relocation within 6 months required if not local)
Job Type: Full-Time | Hybrid (Onsite Tuesday-Friday, Remote Mondays; Remote Fridays added in October)
Travel: ~10% to client sites along the coast
Clearance: Must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance
About the Role
We are seeking experienced Senior Structural Engineers to support high-impact marine engineering projects. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team working on complex vessel design and structural engineering challenges. Ideal candidates will bring 10-15 years of experience, preferably from shipyards or companies like GIBBS & COX or BIRDON, and be ready to contribute immediately.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or supervise large-scale engineering projects or multiple smaller projects with complex features.
  • Perform advanced structural calculations and develop innovative engineering solutions.
  • Oversee conceptual, detailed, and production design for new vessels and vessel modifications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including CAD and modeling staff.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and client communications.
  • Participate in client meetings and occasional site visits to ensure project alignment and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality assurance standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in structural or marine engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of ship design, structural systems, and engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety regulations, and engineering manuals.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts including geometry, trigonometry, and statistical analysis.
  • Must be eligible for U.S. security clearance (active clearance not required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in oil & gas or marine vessel design (e.g., patrol vessels, tugs, barges, offshore support vessels).
  • Experience with GHS, Maxsurf, SHCP, or FEA tools.
  • Prior work with shipyards or marine engineering firms such as GIBBS & COX or BIRDON.
  • Willingness to relocate within 6 months (relocation assistance and bonuses available for qualified candidates).
