Maps is foundational to every Uber experience-whether for riders, eaters, or earners. From pickup and dropoff location search, to rendezvous point recommendations, to optimal route and ETA predictions-Maps services power the entire lifecycle of a Ride or Delivery.
As a Fullstack/Web Engineer you will lead the development of map-based features across Uber's Rider, Eater, and Earner apps. You'll drive the architecture, development, and launch of high-impact user-facing experiences that enable seamless location discovery, selection and refinement.
This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with a world-class team of backend engineers, UX designers, product managers and applied scientists-delivering tangible impact on millions of users. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex problems and shaping the future of how users interact with maps and locations at Uber scale.
\\-\\-\\-\\- What the Candidate Will Do ----
1. Lead the development of next generation of Map/location based web experiences and features end-to-end from inception to delivery at the Uber scale.
2. Work closely with Product and Design team to prototype solutions and help translate unclear business requirements in well defined UX/system requirements.
3. Design and build web applications using React, GraphQL, Flow, CSS in JS, node.js, and leveraging open-source frameworks built by Uber such as Base UI, Styletron, and Fusion.js.
4. Track the success of your features through user experiments, collaborating with Data Science and Product teams as necessary.
5. Coach and mentor junior engineers or new engineers joining the team.
\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. 5+ years of professional experience in front-end or full-stack web development, with deep expertise in modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript, Redux).
2. Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
3. Experience leading complex product surfaces or features end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, testing, and rollout.
4. Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.
5. Comfort navigating large codebases and collaborating across multiple teams and functions (e.g., mobile, backend, design, product).
\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----
1. Experience working with map technologies (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps, Leaflet) or building location-based user interfaces and flows.
2. Prior experience in high-scale consumer products.
3. Experience with experimentation, A/B testing frameworks, and data-driven product development.
