Experience administering IBM Power I. HMC and VIOS Servers including system installation patching and upgrades
Experience with shell scripting and task automation using at least one of the following CL Development Python or shell script

Strong experience applying PTFs. Strong experience applying OS version upgrades
Strong experience with journal-based replication software such as Mimix iCluster or QuickEDD

Job Details

Paragon is a consulting firm headquartered in York, PA with offices in Baltimore, MD and Pittsburgh, PA. Our primary lines of business are EDI Outsourcing, software for the Metals and Steel industry, custom software development, and hosting of clients Power Systems applications. Paragon has five IBMi systems in two co-location sites that house our production systems as well as hosting data and applications for numerous clients. We have over 20 production partitions and 10 partitions for High Availability. We are looking for someone to maintain the existing systems, monitor backups and HA systems, and to create new hosted environments as needed. It is likely that we will be adding one or two new IBM systems to our infrastructure over the next year.

Paragon has clients across the US and resources and many states. We have a team of over 40 individuals, most with development experience om Power Systems in RPG and PHP.

Oversee all components of the hosting infrastructure.

Ensure that clients systems are up to date, backed up, and secure.

Monitor daily operation, backups, HA, and resolve problems as necessary.

Creation of new partitions and loading of client’s data and applications.

Set-up of new HA environments using Rocket iCluster.

Periodically test HA on client’s systems and our own by performing scheduled/controlled failovers

Oversee team that does OS upgrades and PTF’s on all internal systems and some clients ‘on-premises’ systems. 

Maintaining schedule of PTF’s, upgrades, and general system maintenance for all clients.

Assist with implementation of new hardware on our site and at clients (done remotely)

Apply software updates, license keys.

Performance tuning.

Administer SAN storage systems, including backup and recovery of IBM LPARS

Support server hardware infrastructure including IBM Power I, HMC and VIOS

Support and configure IBM BRMS implementation across IBM Power i landscape

User account management and support on IBM OS/400 operating system

Assist in support of client’s systems as needed in areas such as printing, client access, installation of software products.

Leading small-to-large-sized technical projects. 

Assist with the planning long-range technology directions

24x7 on-call rotation for production-related issues

Occasional night or weekend work is required for system maintenance functions.
