Job Description:
This role will play a key role as a Senior Backend Engineer at Torch, you ll play a key role in evolving our platform s architecture, building high-performance distributed systems, and developing agentic workflows that power our next generation of AI-enabled product experiences. You ll design the backend systems that support LLM-powered features at scale - whether that means orchestrating web or voice agents to fetch data, building reliable workflows and safeguards for ingestion and normalization, or ensuring everything operates securely and compliantly.
Good balance of startup excitement (ownership, lean team) and stability/calmness.
Engaged customer base for AI/LLM experimentation and production implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Further then to Design, integrate, and operate LLM-powered and agentic workflows for claims data.
Build and maintain HIPAA-compliant systems for sensitive healthcare data.
Lead decisions around security, compliance, cost, performance, and scaling of AI workloads.
Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability systems for AI pipelines and production modules.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to integrate AI capabilities into Torch s platform.
Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices on both backend engineering and agentic workflows.

MUST HAVE SKILLS
What we are looking for:
minimum of 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and deploying secure, compliant workloads.
Demonstrated record of building scalable, secure, and reliable systems.
Comfortable collaborating with non-engineers, including product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
Bonus:
Experience leading AI infrastructure projects end-to-end in a startup environment
Contributed to architecture or coding standards for engineering teams.
Experience in early-stage product ideation and design for AI-enabled features.
Hands-on experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Pulumi) for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
Benefits
