Apex Systems is looking for a Sr. Linux Engineer to support one of our to DoD clients with an exciting new project.
100% onsite in Radford, VA

We are inviting a talented Senior Linux Engineer to be a part of a trailblazing cloud project. This role is central to the development and management of a hyper converged, multitenant private cloud hosting environment that supports a range of strategic applications. You will be working with an extensive suite of VMware products to establish a cutting-edge Software Defined Data Center (SDDC).
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and maintain a high-performance cloud architecture.
- Design, deploy, and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Linux-based services, ensuring efficient operations.
- Utilize IaC for provisioning Linux resources for newly hosted applications.
- Administer Spacewalk patching servers for Linux hosts.
- Perform daily management of Linux-based services within the cloud environment.
- Implement security and hardening measures for Linux services, adhering to commercial best practices and government cybersecurity controls.
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for Linux-related issues.
- Manage major version upgrades of Linux virtual machines, including resource deployment, application migration, and teardown of old VMs.
- Provide on-call support for resolving critical after-hours production incidents.
- Recommend enhancements for security, scalability, manageability, and performance across various technologies.
Required Skills:
- Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification.
- Linux administrator computing environment certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire), such as Oracle Certified Professional - Oracle Linux 8 System Administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, or Red Hat Certified Engineer.
- Extensive experience with OEL/RHEL.
- Proficiency in automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including Terraform and Ansible Tower.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Expertise in troubleshooting across the entire technology stack (network, storage, server, and applications).
- Familiarity with DoD STIGs and IA Vulnerability Management (IAVM) is advantageous.
