Oracle Database Administrator
Location: Dallas, TX - Hybrid 2-3 days onsite per week
Contract Position: 12months (+extension or conversion)
We re seeking a skilled and proactive Oracle Database Administrator (Logical DBA) to join our client s high-performing data team. The ideal candidate will have strong Oracle and SQL Server expertise, solid scripting skills, and experience supporting large-scale data environments.
This role is more than just execution. We really need someone who asks the right questions, contributes to decisions, and collaborates cross-functionally to maintain clean, optimized, and governed data systems. You ll support enterprise-level Oracle, Exadata, SQL Server, and emerging MongoDB environments across ODS databases and data warehouses. Key areas include query optimization, scripting, security, and long-term data governance. The team is fast-paced, collaborative, and values curiosity, ownership, and problem-solving. New team members should expect a steep but rewarding learning curve, gaining hands-on experience with real-time data, scripting, governance, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic hybrid environment.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on physical/logical DBA experience in Oracle, SQL Server, and Exadata environments
- Strong experience supporting large-scale data environments (80 150 TB), including data warehouses and ODS databases
- Demonstrated ability to ask critical questions and engage as a problem-solver, not just a task executor
- Proficient in Shell scripting (required); scripting for retention, automation, and monitoring is essential
- Strong understanding of performance tuning, partitioning, and optimization techniques
- Familiarity with containerized databases (CDB/PDB) and hybrid data architectures
- Working knowledge of database installs, restores, and backups
- Experience with MongoDB is highly desirable
- Some previous exposure to SaaS and cloud-based platforms is a plus
- Familiarity with Agile methodology and using Jira for work tracking is a must
- Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
- Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC) and Advanced Compression experience is preferred
- Experience with MDM, Hadoop, or data governance tooling
- Some familiarity with cloud migration strategies and hybrid data ecosystems
- Experience with tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle SQL Developer, TOAD, or DBeaver
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support Oracle, Exadata, SQL Server, and MongoDB environments
- Support logical database functions: table creation, user and role provisioning, and schema development
- Collaborate with requestors and internal teams to fully understand requests
- Monitor and optimize performance (query tuning, long-running queries, memory usage, tablespace, CPU, and I/O)
- Identify and resolve issues related to data sprawl, storage limits, and resource contention
- Write and maintain Shell scripts for data retention, monitoring, and other automation tasks
- Clean up legacy data and implement data governance and retention strategies
- Support backup, restore, and installation processes
- Maintain and refresh data across environments, move and transform data between systems
- Implement table partitioning strategies and compression (HCC/Advanced Compression preferred)
- Support containerized database (CDB/PDB) implementations and resource management
- Develop and manage security policies for users and roles at both CDB and PDB levels
- Contribute to the development of database monitoring tools and alerts
- Work in Agile teams using Jira to track work, prioritize requests, and support iterative project delivery
- Provide documentation (runbooks, procedures) for all administrative processes
