Job Title: IT Infrastructure Engineer
Location: New York, NY
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to lead and manage Mainframe and enterprise infrastructure systems. This leadership role oversees day-to-day operations, performance, and strategic planning of the infrastructure team while ensuring systems availability, reliability, and alignment with organizational goals. The role requires strong technical expertise, managerial skills, and the ability to provide coverage during critical incidents, upgrades, and 24/7 operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Oversight:
Lead the infrastructure team to ensure seamless operations and collaboration within the enterprise.
Provide guidance in mainframe and/or enterprise server administration, performance management, hardware configuration, and disaster recovery solutions.
Assign tasks, manage performance, set team and individual goals, and mentor team members.
Ensure adherence to technical policies, procedures, and standards.
Performance, Monitoring, and Capacity Planning:
Analyze performance and capacity metrics.
Conduct daily, monthly, and yearly performance and capacity planning for infrastructure systems.
Project Planning:
Manage projects related to hardware and software upgrades.
Develop project plans and lead teams to deliver initiatives on time.
Mentor team members in completing projects, both large and small.
Software Version Management:
Track software releases and updates.
Ensure the team remains current on all relevant system software.
Vendor Management:
Develop and maintain relationships with hardware and software vendors.
Serve as a liaison for capacity planning and technical support.
Emerging Technologies:
Stay up to date with new infrastructure technologies and recommend implementations aligned with organizational needs.
Documentation Management:
Create, manage, and maintain all procedural and technical documentation for infrastructure systems.
Fiscal Planning:
Produce cost plans for hardware and software lifecycle management, including upgrades, capacity expansion, and consolidation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 4 8 years of relevant experience in datacenter engineering, cloud infrastructure, or complex IT operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills:
20+ years of experience in infrastructure management within large-scale environments.
Expertise in mainframe systems technologies, subsystems, or strong experience in AIX/Linux/Unix systems with enterprise storage.
Strong understanding of z/OS operating system, control, structure, logic, and security.
Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and technical teams.
Proven ability to lead projects, manage teams, and mentor staff in complex IT environments.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and provide updates on team activities and project status.
