Job Description

Under the direction of the immediate manager, the Senior Staff Software Engineer, Research Systems will:
  • Develop new applications with limited guidance.
  • Will design the architecture of software to fit within and integrate within the existing ecosystem.
  • Will work with scientists to determine important features of software that will facilitate scientific workflows.
  • Will work with scientific staff to understand and optimize the scientific workflow to be used with the software developed.
  • Will work with research and IT partners to ensure a framework for support and training is in place.
  • Will prepare program-level and user-level documentation.
  • Organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities to meet project deadlines. Identifies and documents business processes.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience; OR
  • Masters' degree and 4+ years of relevant experience; OR
  • PhD and 0+ years of relevant experience
  • Computer Science, Biological Sciences, structural biology computational chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Some experience in the laboratory or programming languages in a language such as C#

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience of programming in C#
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Problem Solving: Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Discretion/ Latitude: Works under limited supervision. Follows established procedures.
  • Reviews the work of others for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Impact: Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.
  • Liaison (Internal & External Influence): Primarily senior level internal company contacts. Occasional inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.
  • An ability to manage, develop, and improve processes and operations with software.
  • Understanding of natural science

The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
