Description and Requirements

Lenovo Hybrid Cloud Services (HCS) Professional Services team is seeking a proactive PNC Service Engineer to oversee water treatment and quality compliance for mission-critical data centre secondary cooling water systems which support Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) to high performance servers. This role ensures that all water used in cooling operations meets operational and environmental standards, driving optimal system efficiency and highest reliability. The role will be based in North America (NA) as part of the Power and Cooling (PNC) team of Lenovo's Solutions and Services Group (SSG).

The preferred application location is Central, followed by East then West Coast.

PNC Service Engineer must be knowledgeable in the operation of secondary cooling water systems that support DLC servers, with experience in the critical nature of the quality and compliance requirements of the cooling fluids. Candidate will be trained on Lenovo methodologies and technologies and be expected to frequently travel to customer locations, handling multiple projects concurrently.

Full training will be provided to the correct candidate who has enthusiasm and drive to grow into the role as a PNC Service Engineer.

Candidate will be expected to manage and work effectively and collaboratively in the following areas:
  • As part of customer managed services engagement, monitor and manage chemical treatment for secondary cooling water systems for scale inhibition, corrosion control, and biological growth prevention.
  • Conduct quarterly sampling and field testing of water for biological growth, interpret results and take appropriate action to maintain system compliance as needed.
  • Collect additional samples and coordinate lab testing of water for metals and pH, monitor and track client trends, interpret results and return to customer to take appropriate action to further maintain system compliance as needed.
  • Maintain proper water chemistry to ensure system longevity and performance, energy efficiency, and environmental safety.
  • Implement corrective actions and preventative maintenance to mitigate water-related risks to equipment and operations.
  • Develop and update standard Lenovo operating procedures for water monitoring and treatment for clients.
  • Provide training to global teams on proper water system management and compliance practices.
  • Establish third-party partnerships with qualified vendors to provide global support for the water quality and compliance efforts.
  • Liaise and work closely with Lenovo lab to effectively monitor and present diagnostics, including recommendations for resolving customer water quality
  • Evaluate and optimize vendor performance for outsourced water treatment services.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the fundamental cooling components of DLC systems and ability to help troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
  • Perform other preventative maintenance activities, such as fluid filter replacement, as recommended by manufacturers and Lenovo consultants.
  • Effectively project manage vendors contracted to provide separate pieces of the solution.

Position Requirements:

Candidate must possess strong customer interaction skills, the ability to make technical decisions, and respect the highly critical nature of data centre uptime. Collaborate during projects with several organization verticals, partners, and customers.

Qualifications:
  • Competent knowledge of Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Water Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience of working in water quality management or environmental compliance, with additional experience in industrial or data centre environment focused on cooling systems or HVAC water treatment.
  • Advantageous - certifications in Certified Water Technologist, OSHA 30, etc.
  • High Performance Computing systems knowledge

Skill and Competencies
  • Expertise in water chemistry for industrial cooling systems
  • Familiarity with building management systems and water monitoring technologies.
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage contractors and coordinate cross-functional team.
  • Proven ability to work across a wide range of stakeholders and ability to drive issues to closure.
