Job Title: Senior Data Center Onsite Technician Location: Richardson, TX (Fully Onsite) Term: 6-12 Months Contract (W2 or 1099 Only)
Work Schedule: Monday Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior-Level Data Center Technician with 5 10 years of hands-on experience in enterprise data center environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining IT infrastructure equipment, including servers, network switches, storage, and cabling systems. This role requires expert-level troubleshooting of fiber connectivity issues and strong working knowledge of Dell and HP server hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Install and integrate enterprise IT equipment: servers (Dell PowerEdge, HP Gen10), network switches, NetApp storage, PDUs.
Perform precision racking and stacking ensuring optimal airflow and secure mounting.
Execute structured cabling (fiber optic: LC/MPO/MTP and copper: Cat6/Cat6a).
Test and troubleshoot MPO/MTP fiber connections:
Endface inspection
Polarity verification (Type A/B/C)
Continuity and insertion loss using OTDR, VFL, and power meters.
Identify and resolve Layer 1 connectivity issues including mismatched transceivers, bent fibers, and polarity mismatches (10G 400G).
Configure and troubleshoot Dell/HP servers by reviewing system logs, checking for hardware alerts, and supporting lifecycle management.
Maintain accurate documentation: cable matrices, rack elevations, port assignments, and inventory.
Collaborate with infrastructure engineers and network teams for deployment and escalation.
May be expected to mentor or guide junior technicians when needed.
Required Qualifications
5 10 years of experience in a data center environment with a strong focus on hands-on infrastructure support.
Deep understanding of fiber polarity, transmission vs. receive troubleshooting, and MPO/MTP connectivity.
Proven ability to resolve Layer 1 issues and communicate troubleshooting processes clearly.
Practical experience with:
Dell PowerEdge and HP Gen10 servers
Rack and stack operations
Cabling standards (TIA/EIA, ANSI)
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
Ability to occasionally travel to other nearby data center locations (within DFW metro) with notice.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Experience with NetApp storage systems
Certifications related to fiber optics, networking, or server hardware (CompTIA, Cisco, etc.)
