Job Title: OSP Field Fiber Engineer

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient OSP Field Fiber Engineer to lead the design, documentation, and operational support of outside plant (OSP) fiber infrastructure. This role is critical to the planning and execution of high-capacity fiber networks supporting services such as Dark Fiber, Ethernet, DIA, WDM, and FTTx. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of fiber splicing, network architecture, and circuit-level design, along with the ability to manage field operations and mentor junior engineers.

Position Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
Fiber Network Design & Engineering
- Design end-to-end fiber routes for enterprise and carrier-grade services, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, distance limitations, and redundancy requirements.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure and propose optimized paths for new builds, relocations, and upgrades.
- Coordinate with permitting agencies, municipalities, and utility locators to ensure constructability and compliance with local regulations.
Splicing & Field Operations
- Develop detailed splice plans and cut sheets for construction and restoration activities.
- Oversee or support field teams during splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Interpret OTDR traces and fiber characterization results to validate network performance and identify faults.
Network Diagramming & Circuit Documentation
- Create and maintain logical and physical network diagrams using tools such as Visio, AutoCAD, and GIS platforms.
- Document circuit paths, signal flow, and cross-connects for internal teams and external partners.
- Maintain accurate records of fiber inventory, splice points, and customer circuits in centralized databases.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with project managers, construction teams, sales engineers, and service delivery to align network design with business and customer requirements.
- Provide technical guidance during pre-sales engineering and customer solutioning.
- Support escalations and emergency response efforts with rapid design validation and field coordination.
Mentorship & Process Improvement
- Train and mentor junior engineers and drafters on OSP design principles, documentation standards, and field best practices.
- Contribute to the development of internal design standards, documentation templates, and quality control processes.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in telecom fiber network design, splicing, and OSP construction.
- Deep understanding of fiber optic infrastructure, including aerial, underground, and conduit-based systems.
- Proficiency with GIS platforms, Google Earth, and KMZ/KML file creation.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Visio.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Salesforce, or other CRM/engineering platforms is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice schematics, and fiber test results.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field preferred.
