Wireless Validation Engineer

Location: Bay area, CA (Onsite)

As a Wireless Validation Engineer, you will develop, document, execute & debug unit and system-level validation tests for network-connected devices and analyze wireless performance for various different use-cases. This includes mission-critical 4G-LTE, 5G-NR, Wi-Fi, and GNSS wireless interfaces, integrated with vehicle and cloud-based networks. You will collaborate with FW engineers to ensure performance meets quality of service targets and other key metrics including throughput, latency, jitter. You will be hands-on to develop test-cases and execute test frameworks for prototypes and commercial system releases as well conduct tests in the field, ensuring network compliance with international regulations. We seek an expert, enthusiastic, innovative, and self-starting individual to join our team.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and execute tests, conduct hands-on functional, performance testing on wireless and fixed networks in-house and via external labs. Analyze 4G-LTE, 5G-NR, Wi-Fi, GNSS, Ethernet, and IP behavior internally and with partners. Identify root causes of failures, whether found internally or externally.
  • Develop Test Infrastructure - Select, procure, commission, and configure test cases on network emulators and related test equipment supplied by vendors such as Keysight or Rohde & Schwarz. Develop custom test assets, setups, and scripts to enable efficient testing, including scripts using Python and TTCN. Construct and maintain lab infrastructure, from fixed network test harnesses to RF cabling.
  • Being hands-on explore opportunities for improvement, relying on diagnostics, analytics, lab/test equipment experimentations, as well as code/architecture reviews.
  • Generate Documentation - Draft and present Test Plans, Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and Data Reviews. Review and provide feedback on test plans and reports from suppliers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a similar discipline with 8+ years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience configuring/programming wireless test platforms (Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz) and testing/troubleshooting modem development boards and prototypes.
  • Expertise in 3GPP 4G-LTE / 5G-NR network architecture, WiFi, Ethernet standards (IEEE 802.1AS, 802.11), and IP network protocols.
  • Hands-on test experience with SFN/PTCRBF test suites with U.S. MNO & field testing.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi, PHY designs, and coexistence between Wi-Fi, Cellular and GNSS.
  • Ability to use network analysis tools (e.g., QXDM, Wireshark) and analyze communication behavior.
  • Advanced scripting/automation skills (Python, JavaScript) with scalable framework design.

Bonus Qualifications

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a similar discipline with 7+ years of experience.
  • Solid understanding and experience with the NR radio interface, SA/NSA protocol, PHY and MAC layer features/functions, as well as RRC layer control and user plane functions.
  • Automotive Test Asset or HIL knowledge is a plus.
  • Consistent track record of independently leading a complete area of technology and driving product quality while working with cross-functional teams in the field of Cellular, WiFi and GNSS validation.
  • Process/Tool Familiarity with: Requirement-Test Case management tools (Polarion preferred). Ubuntu operating system and Command Line Interface. Python scripting. Atlassian software products (Jira/Confluence)
