What You'll Do

Are you passionate about using cloud technologies to enhance business-critical finance and procurement systems?

We're looking for a technically skilled and solution-oriented Applications Engineer II to join our Finance Applications team. In this role, you'll help build, configure, maintain, and improve the firm's finance and procurement cloud applications-delivering strategic, secure, and high-performing tools to support the business.

You'll blend your understanding of finance systems with technical know-how to troubleshoot issues, support innovation, and ensure these applications meet evolving business needs. This is a collaborative, high-impact role where your expertise will directly contribute to operational excellence.
  • System Management & Enhancement - Build, configure, monitor, and maintain cloud-based finance and procurement applications, driving continual improvement and business alignment
  • Technical Leadership - Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for finance systems, offering guidance and technical support across teams and stakeholders
  • Security & Risk Oversight - Enforce risk, security, and governance standards in cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments; research enhancements that align with security needs
  • Lifecycle Support - Oversee application performance, maintenance, and updates to ensure consistent availability and responsiveness
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting - Investigate issues using structured analysis and SQL-based data reviews; resolve complex system challenges
  • Collaboration & Documentation - Work cross-functionally, adhere to IT service delivery standards, and develop detailed documentation for systems and support processes
  • Operational Support - Participate in a shared on-call rotation to provide 24x7 operational support for core applications

What You'll Bring

  • Education & Technical Background - Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant Experience - Minimum 5 years supporting or configuring cloud-based finance and procurement applications
  • Finance System Proficiency - Experience with Coupa modules (e.g., P2P, SIM, Expenses) and financial systems like Elite 3E preferred
  • Security & Integration Knowledge - Understanding of cloud security concepts, IAM, API middleware (e.g., MuleSoft), and data integration methods such as ADF
  • Support Tools Experience - Familiarity with platforms like ServiceNow and Jira for issue tracking and testing
  • Analytical & Communication Skills - Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and collaborate across teams
  • Organizational Strengths - Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and work independently or within a team environment

Compensation

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. Compensation Range:
  • Chicago: $130,000 - $143,500
