Hello;
Senior Level Expert Scientist or Physicist
Job Location:-Remote
Long Term
Senior-Level Expert-preferably a scientist or physicist-with hands-on experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting magnetic tracking systems, especially in medical device or similar precision environments.
Key Requirements:
1. Domain-Specific Expertise
Must have direct experience building and shipping magnetic tracking solutions-ideally used in catheter navigation, cardiac, gastrointestinal, or surgical tracking systems.
Should be deeply familiar with electromagnetic field behavior, distortion mitigation, and high-accuracy submillimeter tracking.
2. Physics and Algorithmic Background
Strong understanding of applied physics, especially in electromagnetism and signal distortion.
Should be able to guide or develop algorithms that detect and correct magnetic field distortions, particularly in the presence of metallic interference (e.g., from fluoroscopy equipment).
Experience with sensor fusion and field mapping algorithms is critical.
3. Hands-on, First-Principles Approach
Resource must be capable of working from first principles to identify root causes and solutions-not just implementing existing tools.
Abbott is not looking for someone to validate or test an existing product but to contribute meaningfully during the research and prototyping phase.
4. Experience in Regulated Environments (Preferred)
While current focus is not regulatory, experience in FDA-regulated environments (Class II/III devices) is a bonus.
Role Scope:
Advisory + Hands-On: Guide the team through early R&D obstacles and propose strategies to achieve robust, accurate magnetic tracking.
Act as an accelerator for the internal team by sharing practical insights and helping navigate complex physics-based design tradeoffs.
Possibly assist in designing lab tests and simulations to evaluate and improve system accuracy.
