Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels - including streaming, linear, and theatrical - so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

The Media & Metadata Acquisition and Syndication Services (MASS) team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help us deliver excellent linear & streaming experiences for Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN as a developer of our metadata integration platform. Our team is responsible for content metadata acquisition, ingestion, normalization, transformation, packaging, and syndication. You will have the opportunity to lead in the design and implementation of our global integration & metadata platforms that power linear television and streaming platforms.

The right candidate will have experience building API's, workflow orchestrations, and data integrations. You will be responsible for the design, development, testing and shipping of the API's and workflows for large features, own the technical design sessions, and mentor other engineers for the completion of the work. Finally, you will work cross-functionally with internal and external partners like product, program, platform, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain microservices which integrate with various media supply chain systems and backends.
  • Solve code and end-end workflows for the critical production issues and propose design changes required to fix these issues.
  • Create and review architecture and designs for our team's projects.
  • Own large and complex features of the workflows.
  • Collaborate with product, program, platform, infrastructure, and other engineers.
  • Improve observability for end-end workflows using monitoring, logging, and alerting technologies.
  • Drive improvements for our continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Modernize existing workflows using latest technologies.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study.
  • 5+ years of experience in the software engineering field, with a focus on designing and developing workflows which are highly available, fault tolerant, and distributed in nature.
  • Solid understanding of APIs and event riven architectures
  • Strong experience in promoting best practices for code development.
  • Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Python, Kafka, GraphQL, and AWS Cloud technologies
  • Strong knowledge of data specifications, XML, JSON, SQL, REST, and GraphQL
  • Strong knowledge in automation and tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Cloud Watch, DataDog, Grafana, Service Now, Pager Duty
  • Work with a geographically dispersed team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in Media Supply Chains.
  • Experience working with vendor teams to deliver high quality results.
  • Understanding of linear television and Streaming technologies, including Movielabs, Cablelabs, Avails, MDDF, SCTE, SMPTE, and other movie specs and standards HLS/DASH, Adaptive Bitrate Streaming Algorithms, CDN Program Title, Caption, and subtitle formats like Codecs AVC, HEVC, and AAC.
  • Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it.

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $117,998 to $158,290 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $112,586 to $151,030; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $123,328 to $165,440 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
