Job Title: Principal Customer Solutions Engineer
Location: Remote (US)
Duration: 12 Months+ Contract
Overview
We are seeking a Principal Customer Solutions Engineer who is creative, curious, and passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for post-sales deployment of Rocket products, including technical implementation, customer training, and ongoing relationship management. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with deep experience in mainframe modernization, distributed technologies, and cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Lead technical solution implementation for assigned customer projects
Serve as the primary technical point of contact; communicate status, risks, and technical solutions effectively
Guide clients in setup, configuration, and administration of Rocket products
Deliver customer training and provide ongoing technical mentorship
Conduct code reviews, estimate project requirements, and ensure architectural compliance
Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams on resource planning
Differentiate product defects vs. enhancements and escalate as needed
Manage multiple projects, budgets, and client relationships independently
Identify opportunities for extended services and consulting engagements
Technical Requirements
Mainframe Experience:
COBOL and/or PL/I programming
IBM CICS, IMS, JCL subsystems (system or application level)
IBM Db2 for z/OS, IMS DB, VSAM/QSAM
Distributed Systems Experience:
Relational databases: Db2 LUW, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle
Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, Unix
Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform
Containers/Platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift
Additional Skills:
Mainframe migration tools/methodologies (emulation, code conversion, re-platforming)
Agile engineering practices & DevOps tools (CI/CD, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline)
Enterprise application development (Java, .NET, Web) is a plus
Qualifications
15+ years in IT (including project management, team leadership, application lifecycle, or change management)
Senior-level skills in at least two of the following:
Enterprise application development (Java, .NET, Web)
IBM i application development
Database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Db2)
i5/OS, Windows, or Linux OS
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer-facing consulting skills
Previous consulting and travel-oriented experience required
Travel
Up to 20% travel required
