Job Description

We're seeking a contract-based AI & IoT Solutions Architect to lead the technical discovery, design, and deployment of smart technologies within a multi-location quick-service restaurant (QSR) or retail environment.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technologist who understands the full AI/IoT lifecycle-from on-site tech stack audits to building real-world, scalable pilots. You'll work closely with stakeholders to identify high-ROI use cases such as labor scheduling automation, drive-thru or kiosk-based voice AI, dynamic menu optimization, and predictive inventory or equipment monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site tech stack audits to assess hardware, software, connectivity, and operational workflows
  • Collaborate with ownership and operations leadership to identify and prioritize AI/IoT opportunities
  • Design and prototype custom AI models and IoT solutions tailored to local conditions and integrated with POS, signage, and back-of-house systems
  • Evaluate and deploy commercial-grade sensors (temperature, motion, equipment health, etc.) for operational automation
  • Build simple, cloud-connected dashboards and reporting tools for management visibility
  • Execute pilot deployments before scaling system-wide
  • Coordinate with external vendors or internal tech teams as needed
  • Document systems and provide training support for operational handoff

Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of experience in AI/ML development, IoT integration, or smart systems architecture
  • Familiarity with QSR or multi-unit retail environments, including POS systems, digital signage, and kitchen or inventory workflows
  • Proficient in Python, Node.js, or similar languages for rapid prototyping
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform cloud platforms, APIs, and sensor integrations
  • Strong communicator, comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams
  • Based in or near Columbus, OH and available for on-site visits as needed
