THIS ROLE WILL BE ONSITE 3-4 DAYS PER WEEK IN CHICAGO.
The Reporting & Analytics Subject Matter Expert (SME) contractor role focuses on transforming Finance reporting by rationalizing, standardizing, and automating reporting processes to enhance efficiency and decision-making. This role collaborates with various Finance teams to design and implement automated solutions using advanced ERP and BI tools, ensuring data governance and compliance throughout the process.
- Lead report rationalization and automation: The SME will inventory existing reports, eliminate redundancies, establish standardized templates, reports, and KPIs, and automate recurring reporting cycles such as close packs and variance analysis.
- Collaborate and implement technical solutions: Partnering with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, and other teams, the SME will develop self-service dashboards and automation workflows using SAP S/4HANA, Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, Anaplan, and related tools.
- Champion data governance and adoption: The role includes managing Critical Data Elements, maintaining reporting integrity, ensuring audit compliance, and providing training to facilitate adoption of automated reporting solutions across Finance.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the report rationalization effort, including inventorying existing reports, eliminating redundancies, and establishing standardized reporting templates and KPIs.
- Partner with Accounting, AR/AP, Treasury, FP&A, and Statutory Reporting teams to understand reporting requirements and co-design automated solutions.
- Develop and implement self-service dashboards and automation workflows using SAP S/4HANA, Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, Anaplan, BlackLine, Workiva, and related tools.
- Drive automation of recurring reporting cycles, including close packs, reconciliations, AR/AP reporting, liquidity reporting, and variance analysis.
- Serve as a data governance champion: define and manage Critical Data Elements (CDEs), maintain reporting integrity, and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate across Finance, IT, Compliance, and Data Governance teams to align on data sources, integration, and reporting standards.
- Provide training and support to Finance teams to ensure smooth transition and adoption of automated reporting solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field; Master s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Finance reporting, analytics, or Finance transformation roles.
- Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and finance operations preferred. Insurance and/or Statutory Reporting experience helpful but not required.
- Demonstrated experience in report rationalization and automation initiatives.
- Experience with data governance, CDE management, and audit/compliance readiness.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven technical expertise with:
- BI & Planning Tools: Power BI, Cloud Analytics
- Automation Tools: (Blackline, Workiva, HighRadius, or RPA solutions)
- Advanced analytics & visualization design
Success Measures
- Achieves measurable reduction in reporting volume (30 40% rationalization).
- Drives automation of 50 75% of recurring reports within 12 18 months.
- Ensures 80%+ adoption of standardized dashboards by Finance teams.
- Contributes to a shorter close cycle and enhanced decision-making capabilities for leadership.
