Job Details

The WordPress Engineer II is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining high-quality WordPress websites and custom features, including WSFSBank.com, CashConnect.com, and BMT.com. This role involves building custom themes and plugins, improving site performance, and ensuring code quality through modern development practices. The engineer will collaborate closely with Marketing to design and build new sites and components while also troubleshooting complex issues, addressing security vulnerabilities, conducting code reviews, and improving development processes.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress websites, custom themes, and plugins.
  • Work within the WP Engine environment for staging, deployments, and performance optimization.
  • Build responsive, accessible, and SEO-friendly front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS (SCSS), and JavaScript.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and create custom plugin functionality as needed.
  • Collaborate with designers, marketers, and development teams to deliver high-quality experiences.
  • Monitor site health, perform updates, and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Use Git for version control and manage deployments within a collaborative team workflow.
  • Apply WordPress security best practices to maintain site integrity.
  • Maintain technical documentation, processes, and SOPs.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS3 (SCSS), and JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Strong experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and headless WordPress (optional but preferred).
  • Solid understanding of SEO principles and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Experience with Git, WP-CLI, Composer, and modern development workflows.
  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment strategies.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience.
  • Experience with WP Engine is preferred.
  • WordPress-related certifications are a plus.
