Senior DevOps Engineer

This company is looking for a seasoned DevOps professional to join our team and support our Cloud-centric DevOps initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Linux, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and Compliance as Code, along with a strong technical foundation and the ability to contribute both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

The company is located in Reston, VA and will be a hybrid model.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Offer technical leadership and mentorship on automation projects and best practices
  • Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Compliance as Code within cloud platforms
  • Build self-service tools to empower operations teams and boost infrastructure efficiency
  • Contribute to efforts that promote self-healing and self-diagnosing infrastructure and services
  • Develop automation for monitoring, metrics gathering, and performance analysis
  • Create clear and comprehensive documentation to support implementation and operations
  • Prepare documentation suitable for both internal stakeholders and customer presentations
  • Manage and prioritize multiple work streams across various engagements
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Active Tier 5 (T5) background investigation or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Certifications required within 3 months: Security+ and a Linux cert (e.g., Linux+, RHSCA)
  • Proficiency in Shell scripting (Bash, Korn, C)
  • Advanced Python programming and automation expertise
  • Experience automating AWS Cloud tasks using Boto3, AWS CLI, or similar tools
  • Skilled in Ansible for Linux configuration management and task automation
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and forensic analysis of Linux systems and log files
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS Cloud; AWS DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect Associate certification preferred
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Familiarity with high-availability tools like Pacemaker
  • Experience with DISA STIG compliance tools such as STIG Viewer and SCC
  • Understanding of implementing and maturing security controls aligned with frameworks like NIST 800-53
  • Comfortable with Git and modern Git workflows, especially when integrated with tools like Jira
  • Experience with code quality tools (e.g., Pylint) and testing frameworks (e.g., Pytest, JUnit)
  • Proficiency in infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD practices and tools in cloud-based environments
  • Strong diagnostic skills for complex issues in cloud infrastructure
  • Detail-oriented with a strong security focus
  • Prior experience in enterprise environments with extensive host deployments
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven settings
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills-verbal, written, and interpersonal
