Software Engineer - Job Description

As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing and enhancing solutions to complex software challenges. Your work will involve coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining software systems. You'll contribute to both small-scale engineering efforts and larger, enterprise-wide initiatives, collaborating across departments to deliver optimal outcomes for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Design & Development

• Maintain and refactor existing systems of moderate complexity, with occasional new development (not greenfield/high-complexity).
• Apply technical expertise to deliver impactful solutions for customers.
• Independently tackle initiatives aligned with broader engineering strategies.
• Design solutions within the core framework of the team's software products.
• Participate in detailed design discussions within your product area.

Software Engineering

• Use critical thinking and independent judgment to solve complex, customer-impacting problems.
• Collaborate effectively within the team while also contributing independently to core product development.
• Deliver reliable, scalable, and resilient software that meets or exceeds team expectations.

Team Collaboration

• Engage in team collaboration sessions, offering technical insights and helping remove roadblocks.
• Contribute to product planning and implementation, assisting in work decomposition.

DevOps & Support

• Participate in support rotations and build expertise in key subsystems.

Mentorship & Coaching

• Provide technical guidance to resolve software issues.
• Train and mentor junior developers to support their growth.

Qualifications & Skills
Required

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of secure and stable systems design.
• In-depth knowledge of operating systems and application development platforms.
• Skilled in debugging code and analyzing complex logs for defect resolution.
• Solid grasp of application engineering principles.
• Experience querying databases for data retrieval and updates.
• Proficient in backend development using Java and C#.
• Advanced SQL skills and basic data modeling experience.
• Familiarity with integrating backend systems with relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with the ServiceNow platform, including development and customization.
• Comfortable with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or similar for automation and integration.
• Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Ability to work closely with data pipelines, analytics, and reporting tools.

Preferred

• Experience in the financial services industry.
• Ability to coach and mentor team members.
