Job Description

Do you thrive working in a multi-cultural environment where we design and build complex and challenging capital projects for our clients? We are looking for an accomplished Engineering / Design Manager for current projects in the Life Sciences market.

In this position, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in the design and development of life sciences facilities from concept /schematic design through construction documentation. You will collaborate with client stakeholders to align on facility needs such as capacity planning, site layout, facility operations, etc.

You will lead the engineering effort on assigned projects and are responsible for coordinating the individual Engineering Discipline Leads such that the most cost effective total project solution for executing engineering work is achieved. Specific responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership:
Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of engineers and designers.
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment to drive the team's success.
Set clear objectives, delegate tasks, and monitor progress to ensure project milestones are met.

2. Engineering Design Management:
Manage the entire design process, from concept to detail design and construction support, ensuring adherence to life sciences industry regulations and standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, Construction, Procurement, Contracts, Quality, Project Controls, HSE, HR, IT and CQV, to align design objectives and project requirements.
Conduct design reviews, identify risks, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines, budgets and quality standards.

3. Technical Expertise:
Utilize your deep understanding of the Engineering Design Process and life sciences principles, such as biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare equipment, to drive innovative design solutions.
Stay updated on the latest advancements, emerging technologies, and industry best practices related to life sciences engineering design.
Provide technical guidance and support to the team in resolving complex design challenges.

4. Resource and Project Management:
Develop project plans, allocate resources effectively, and develops/manage project budgets to ensure successful project execution.
Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure project deliverables are met.
Collaborate with stakeholders to set project priorities, manage expectations, and provide regular updates on project status.

5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, such as FDA guidelines, ISO standards, and other relevant regulations, throughout the design process.
Establish and maintain Fluor quality processes and procedures to ensure the delivery of safe and effective products.
Lead risk management activities, including risk assessment, risk analysis, and risk mitigation strategies.

Basic Job Requirements

Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and sixteen (16) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Preferred Qualifications

Professional registration and active participation in technical society
Advanced knowledge of equipment through all stages of a project from conceptual phase to design development, construction, and commissioning
Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
Practical field experience
Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs

Other Job Requirements

Proven experience as an Engineering Design Manager, preferably in the life sciences industry.
In-depth knowledge of life sciences principles and regulations related to biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare equipment.
Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, including FDA guidelines and ISO standards.
Strong understanding of BIM/3D design tools and other relevant design tools.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across different teams and levels of the organization.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to manage a single large project or multiple small/medium sized projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
