Job Description
DUTIES: Executes Onboard charging module (OBCM) and vehicle to load inverter module (V2LiM) technical requirements and evaluates 400Vdc and 800Vdc power electronics designs. Develops Power Electronics based applications considering the following: national and international standards, physical dimensions, thermal properties and coolant requirements, bi-directional converter alternating current direct current input-output power and current level, thermal derating strategy, high voltage ripple, transient performance, inrush current limit for inductive loads, load dynamic response, efficiency, electromagnetic (EMC) compatibility following government regulations, cybersecurity, and environmental and safety guidelines. Resolves component integration technical issues in vehicle manufacturing and development level. Works cooperatively with and provides technical guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of power electronics. Leads supplier primary and critical design review and verifies OBCM and V2LiM topology selection considering current trend for ac-dc power factor correction, and dc-dc CLLC/LLC resonant converter, EMC filter and transient protection, dc-link capacitor, power device like metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor, insulated gate bipolar transistor, diode, device loss for example switching and conduction loss, frequency criteria for component selection, dc-dc resonant converter control strategy, gate driver and microcontroller selection and placement, printed circuit board layout, and various protection ranges related to converter safe operation. Designs control interface for OBCM and V2LiM by working with the vehicle integration team by setting power conversion enable-disable conditions, LIN/CAN/Ethernet specifications, voltage/current control set, sensor requirements. Technically approves supplier list by communicating with supplier and review design. Performs high voltage charging and discharging functional tests with high voltage dc/ac electronic load, regenerative grid simulator, power analyzer, oscilloscope, current sensor for high voltage supply/load current, differential probe for high voltage supply/load voltage, low voltage power supply, chiller, vehicle to load accessory cable, vehicle charging receptacle. Supports advanced technology work projects for future vehicles system design to ensure component design requirements and applies lessons learned in production hardware. Performs worst-case analysis to assess power converter design performance and robustness using MATLAB, Simulink, LTSpice, Ansys Simplorer, Altium Designer. Ensures lessons learned comprehended in converter statement of requirement (SOR) and bill of design. Leads DFMEA reviews to ensure design compliance. Works on field warranty related technical issues. Analyzes fault log data by collecting controller area network (CAN), local interconnect network (LIN), and Automotive Ethernet logs using VehicleSpy tool, CANape, ETAS INCA and neoVI FIRE. Assists in planning design completion dates and completes designs to planned timing. Creates and protects intellectual property. Leads OBCM and V2LiM benchmarking activities to remain competitive in global market by reviewing cost of different component, supplier competitive advantage, power rating, weight, cooling method, power density, power stage topology analysis, ac input filter, dc output filter, control and main board, and vehicle integration capability with load/grid/vehicle/home. Utilizes Design for Six Sigma analysis as a decision tool for design trade-off activities and decision-making. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote - Must be able to report to local office.
