Description

SAIC is looking for a Senior Database Engineer who will sustain and provide future solutions/resolutions for the established databases within NAWC-WD. This position will be located at Point Mugu, CA. This position requires an active Secret security clearance.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate a high-level of knowledge and experience in database management systems, standards, requirements, guidelines, and quality assurance for database deliverables such as transactions and backups. Experience with conceptual design and architecture of databases, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy. Must have experience in SQL, PostgreSQL, and C#.

Specific responsibilities of the Senior Database Engineer Principal include monitoring, analyzing, configuring, testing, and reporting database conditions to ensure successful database development and maintenance associated with the following:
  • Developing new databases, as required, and updating existing databases; heavy SQL and PostgreSQL use.
  • Developing quality assurance checks and exercises to test readiness responses and communication channels.
  • Responding to customers and users for assistance in database integration and development.
  • Translating client's business requirements into a logical model that will accurately support and represent the client's entity relationship and flow of data.
  • Developing appropriate database frameworks to convert logical models into physical models including the creation and maintenance of schemas containing tables, columns, views, functions, and stored procedures; and making recommendations to maximize operating efficiency, support storage requirements, vendor software updates, enforce data governance, and ensure recovery is maintained.
  • Familiarity with database and software development technologies such as SQL, PostgreSQL, C#, Java, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Agile Software Development practices.
  • Participation in quality assurance processes.

Qualifications

Education and experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of experience; or a Master's degree and three (3) years of experience; years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required skills:
  • Experience with database and software technologies including SQL, PostgreSQL, and C#.
  • Tools: Visual Studio, SSMS, GIT, TSQLT Framework.
  • Excellent data evaluation skills and use of tools like MS Excel and MS Azure DevOps.
  • Software Engineering/Database Administrator or Quality Assurance Engineer, Azure DevOps CICD, Unit Testing, Integration Testing, System Testing, Naval Mission Planning (nice to have).
  • Deriving tests from requirements, Software Development Lifecycle Processes, Configuration Management Good Practices.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects and work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Works well with other test organizations.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.

Required clearance:
  • Must have an active Secret security clearance (minimum) and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance post hire.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
