We are seeking an experienced Lead Developer to join our Engineering Enablement team. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and maintenance of re-usable components for mission critical security applications and services , with a primary focus on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) , Hardware Security Modules (HSM) , and secure software development . You will be accountable for delivering reliable, high-performance, and compliant solutions that protect mission-critical systems.

The successful candidate will have proven expertise in DevSecOps practices , secure coding standards , performance benchmarking , and vulnerability remediation . You will drive the creation of reusable security components and ensure that solutions meet SWIFT's stringent security, performance, and compliance requirements .

What to Expect:

In this role you will:

• Provide technical leadership in the design and development of solutions involving PKI, HSM, and cryptographic services
• Drive DevSecOps practices across the software lifecycle to embed security controls early and continuously
• Lead performance benchmarking and load testing activities to validate system scalability and resilience
• Develop reusable security components for adoption across SWIFT platforms
• Guide teams in secure coding practices , vulnerability remediation, and security posture improvement

• Apply strong hands-on development skills in C, C++, Java, and Python for security module implementation, performance tuning, and production troubleshooting
• Design & Development - Architect and implement secure, high-performance solutions utilizing PKI and HSM technologies
• Secure Coding & Standards - Define and enforce coding practices aligned with OWASP, NIST, and SWIFT security policies
• Reusable Security Components - Build modular, reusable components for consistent application of security patterns
• Performance & Benchmarking - Establish performance benchmarks, execute load/stress testing, and interpret results
• Vulnerability Management - Integrate vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., SonarQube, Snyk) into CI/CD pipelines, analyze findings, and provide remediation guidance
• Development Excellence - Apply expert-level programming skills in C, C++, Java, and Python to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions
• Production Support - Investigate and resolve complex security-related incidents in production environments
• Collaboration & Leadership - Work closely with architects, DevOps, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure end-to-end security
• Documentation & Compliance - Produce technical specifications, operational procedures, and compliance evidence

What will make you successful:

We are seeking professionals with:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field
• 10+ years of relevant software development experience, including extensive programming in C, C++, Java, and Python
• Minimum 5 years of experience specializing in PKI and HSM solutions
• Proven expertise in cryptographic principles , certificate lifecycle management, and secure key storage
• Strong experience with DevSecOps practices , integrating automated security testing into CI/CD pipelines
• Solid background in performance benchmarking and load/stress testing
• Practical experience with vulnerability scanning tools and remediation methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve security incidents in production
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage stakeholders across functions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Key Management Systems (KMS) and cloud-native security services (AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, Google Cloud Platform KMS)
• Familiarity with container and microservices security in Kubernetes/Docker environments
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated environments

The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position in Virginia is $121,564.00 USD Annual MINIMUM to $225,762.00 USD Annual MAXIMUM. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Our compensation packages include a competitive base salary and bonus opportunity for all employee's contingent on personal and company performance.
