Overview

Duke Energy is seeking an Automation & Systems Infrastructure Engineer to support mission-critical operational technologies, including SCADA, Control Center systems, and regulated infrastructure environments. This role operates under NERC CIP, TSA, and NIST cybersecurity standards, requiring a security-first engineering mindset. The engineer will develop automation solutions, scripting workflows, and system integrations that enhance reliability, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Local/hybrid candidates are the priority. Exceptionally strong remote EST/CST candidates with regulated utility & NERC CIP experience may be considered but are not preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Provide enterprise-level support for infrastructure technologies used in SCADA and other critical operations systems.
Work within NERC CIP, TSA, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework requirements.
Design and implement automated installs, updates, and configuration deployments.
Build custom scripts for software installation, uninstallation, configuration, and automation.
Develop and maintain BigFix Tasks/Fixlets, including custom automation packages.
Support and develop Robotic Process Automation (RPA) workflows (Tungsten preferred, UiPath acceptable).
Integrate hardware/software solutions for monitoring, cybersecurity, OT compliance, and operational performance.
Support Microsoft SQL Server for data operations, reporting, automation integration, and backend support.
Document standard work procedures, installation methodologies, and upgrade processes.
Partner with infrastructure teams to identify automation opportunities and streamline processes.
Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate within hybrid teams.

Required Qualifications

4+ years in systems infrastructure engineering.
Strong scripting experience: PowerShell, JavaScript, shell script, SQL.
Hands-on experience building, testing, and deploying automated installs.
Experience developing custom BigFix Fixlets and Tasks.
Experience with RPA tools (Tungsten preferred; UiPath acceptable; Microsoft Power Automate less preferred).
Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server.
Ability to apply the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to daily engineering work.
Strong documentation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work onsite in a hybrid model.
Ability to obtain and maintain NERC CIP clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting regulated utilities, power systems, or control centers.
Experience handling sensitive CIP-protected data.
Experience supporting SCADA or OT environments.
Automation engineering in mission-critical operational environments.
